This work arose from a collaborative research project called Rhyzom, carried out with Belfast’s PS2 in partnership with artists and architects from across Europe. Rhyzom was an investigation of how culture was practised and made tangible in marginalised landscapes, both urban and rural.

Invited to produce work for the project publication, Translocal Act: Cultural Practices Within and Across, I made a photographic and text document of three walks in the north Leitrim border landscape.

In this document I foreground my bodily experience, specific to those times and places and having been then in the first year of motherhood. I also interpret what I am seeing, trying to explain these landscapes to myself through geo-political, social, economic and cultural lenses as well as physical and emotional.

Later the piece was shown together with work by Sarah Browne and Fiona Woods, as Commons, at the Leitrim Sculpture Centre in 2011.
