2012

In 2012 I was invited to contribute work to The Border at The Dock in Carrick-on-Shannon in County Leitrim, along with Garrett Carr and Adrian Duncan.

I drew on oral history research I had carried out for Ulster University project Irish Border/lands. Over the course of a year-and-a-half I had spoken to 80 border dwellers about their lived experiences of the border between 1921 and 2006. Certain phrases from these conversations, recorded and transcribed, had stayed with me, and I built a multimedia installation around them.

Using drawings of these words, as well as maps, prints, photographs, a slideshow and handmade book, my intention was to reflect on the shifting and multiple meanings of the border through time, and its human impact.
